The return of Best Buddy

Best Buddy made a timely return to Coney Stove today.

Two unnamed divers, let's call them Bandido and Vindaloo, were attempting to lead a group of excellent divers when they got badly narked at 34 metres. They were in such a state that they thought they were JanSte, a fine couple who bear no resemblance to the ugly duo.

Anyway, from out of the blue Best Buddy suddenly appeared and spotted their dilemma immediately. Those of us who know BB will understand what a superb and intuitive diver he is.

He moved quickly towards the narky pair of divvy divers and guided them back to safety. He then proceeded to take them on a dive, the likes of which they had never experienced in their dismal lives, and delivered them safely to shore. Tears welled in their eyes as they surfaced. Best Buddy smiled his handsome smile and modestly said nothing.

"God bless you Best Buddy" they called out as he disappeared into the deep, no doubt on another errand of mercy.

Yes.  Indeed!  Best Buddy is alive and kicking and still handing out good turns to divers in distress, but this is, sadly, only in and around inland waterways.

After a fabulous day's diving in Cosy Stones (or somewhere close) my buddy and I decided to stop off on the way home to do a little recreational spending!  This is where the problem lies. With the car packed to the ginnels with all our lovely Christmas diving treats, though safely hidden from view, Billy Burglar struck.  The car was broken into and all the dive gear was taken, probably to be flogged on eBay tomorrow - along with lots and lots of other treasured possessions, such as my hairdryer and lipstick.

So please take heed of our experience. Don't be tempted to leave your car anywhere with your dive gear in.  Also take the opportunity to check that it is insured adequately as I have just done a very quick calculation of my loss and it adds up to some ridiculous amount if it all goes in one fell swoop. Also double double check the exclusions.  I have just found out that regardless of how much you insure your dive gear for, there is a maximum payout of £1000 for theft of personal possessions from a locked secure car - with some possible exemptions if it is all itemised and priced.  Imagine the premiums - see the warning signs!

I have been left, in total, with 2 cylinders, 1 pony, weight pockets and lead.

So a bit like the Green Cross Code man - take it easy out there because BB is not always going to be there when you need him most.  However, I bet John didn't get his overtime in at the chamber so BB must have been working vv hard today.

Well, I think Deepthought and Del are very mean trying to buy Gill's gear on ebay. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Trust me - it will NEVER fit them!!! And the giveaway lumpy bits on the front of the drysuit would be just wrong!!!

Have checked eBay but think most of it will end up in a hedge - roll on the Monopoly money from the insurance company, wup-di doo!

To top it all it happened in the forest of Sherwood land and the Sheriff of Nottingham is in charge of the case, so Billy Burglar must have been.........Robin Hood.

(Will print this off to show to Leaky as his laptop went too so he can't access the forum   )

KT.....................................Best Buddy, where were you when I needed you?

It was more likely Guy of Gisbourn or the sheriff's men, Robin Hood wouldn't steal from a fair lady!

On a serious note I did notice someone (not you Gill) yesterday had a PADI sticker and a compressed gas Hazchem sign in the back of their car, bit of a dead giveaway to thieves, not recommended!

Look on the bright side, with the insurance money you will be able to get some decent gear for a change !!

I take it the D9 and transmitter went, along with the ATX 200, the Pony, the O3 Ri 2100 dry suit, the Auqalung Pro Unlimited and the full face mask ?

Well, what can I say, only diving to the 10mtr platform and back with students will eventually catch up with the most experienced Dive Masters!

Go past 10mtrs, get narked and believe you are a villian from a James Bond movie, jumping on the back of some poor unsuspecting diver looking for some make believe friends (have you been watching "Harvey" over Christmas Trigsy?).

In a flash Best Buddy was there saving the bemused MSD's from drowning - have you ever laughed so much under water ? At the behest of BB we cut short our first dive to escort Friggytish back to the safety of the shallows to recover, tars in our eyes from all laughing.

As we helped Friggy out of the water he began to think we were Steve and Jayne !!! I can see the likeness with Steve and his flowing locks - but Jayne !!

Where were his nurses when he needed them sooooooo much ????
