A Bridge Too Far ?????

For those who didn't make it (myself included), this is what we were looking for.

I think that the wall in the background is the one Deepthought and I managed to find, though we did get deeper than the rest (and didn't get out on the wrong side - albeit for a pee !!!!!!)

Obviously we need to wait for the next drought before we dive there again if we hope to see the village.biggrin

Kirk, we all need some straight answers. Do you have the same problem half way through a sky dive? Just so that we can all make sure that we're not underneath when it happens!!!!!!

If you look at this photo you can see where the bridge is, nowhere near where we where, it seems to be close to that little island with trees on it which was slightly round the bend in the lake, however it has a road with walls on either side leading to it which could be followed from the shore!

Bridge too far

I know I'm sad but I'm trying to get a pre 1930s OS map so I can pinpoint it exactly!

I think next time (if there is one) we start further along or all bring DPVs

DEL

If you look through the photo's you will see that the bridge we were aiming for is further around - try photo number 24. The bridge in that one is just passed the forest area we were swiming past, the one in your link is right around the back of the small island.

Have a look at 555 on the link that I put on which seem to suggest that we were virtually on top of it when we came up. There's a photo in the Haweswater hotel the seems to suggest the same.

You can safely say that on the plane just before I jump out that I need to go, also before I get on the plane and probably when I am planning it.

Just seems to me to be the same old Scotland problem brought back to the lakes, good intentions all round on finding things but never actually seeing what you are looking for.aww

All good navigation practice, and yes Kirk, does'nt matter which side you come out on, its just a little swim backconfused...............
